When Guerrilla Publishing exposed Oklahoma attorney Cassidy Gies for driving drunk with her four-year-old son in the car, her husband's response was more shocking than the original crime. Donald Gies, also an attorney, left a series of escalating voicemails threatening violence and promising to schedule weekly visits to defecate on journalist Ron Durbin's grave. The Oklahoma Bar Association's response? They deemed grave threats not serious enough for action, then suspended Durbin instead.

The Crash That Started Everything

On February 28th, 2024, Tulsa police found Cassidy Gies's 2020 Volvo XC90 with both left tires shredded and airbags deployed after she crashed into multiple curbs on 11th Street. Her four-year-old son sat in the back seat while officers noted "the odor of alcoholic beverage wafting from the vehicle." Gies was slurring her words and wobbling, insisting her destroyed car could still be driven to their hotel.

Why was she driving at all? According to the arrest report, Gies needed to use the bathroom, and her husband Donald was too drunk to drive, having spent the evening drinking at a bar while their preschooler waited. This family decision-making led to felony child endangerment charges and a DUI arrest.

When Lawyers Become Unhinged

After Guerrilla Publishing posted the story on Facebook, Donald Gies unleashed a barrage of threats that escalated throughout the day. Starting at 9:21 AM with demands to "call me back real quick," he progressed to promising to "fuck you up the moment I see you" by 1:39 PM. His 1:52 PM voicemail included the bizarre threat to defecate on Durbin's grave on a weekly schedule.

The voicemails revealed an attorney completely unraveling: "You need to call me now. Now, you ass. Call me now." Despite filing complaints with the Oklahoma Bar Association, they decided terroristic threats from a licensed attorney weren't grounds for disciplinary action. The same bar association that would later suspend Durbin for his reporting.

A Pattern of Alcohol and Chaos

Digging deeper revealed Cassidy's troubling history with alcohol. In 2022, she hosted a Valentine's Day sleepover for tween girls where Senate candidate Abby Broyals allegedly got drunk, made racist comments to children, and vomited in a laundry basket. Cassidy stayed anonymous in news coverage of the incident while simultaneously serving as Broyals's attorney when the story broke.

The homeowner who hosted that disaster? That was Cassidy Gies, then using her maiden name Reed. When Broyals eventually dropped out of the race citing alcohol dependency, Cassidy never acknowledged her role in hosting the incident that derailed a political campaign.

Justice System Protects Its Own

On March 14th, 2025, Cassidy was formally charged with felony child endangerment and DUI. Her legal team fought to block access to body cam footage, but she ultimately pleaded no contest and received a deferred sentence. The court ordered a drug and alcohol assessment as part of her probation agreement.

That probation didn't last long. On January 5th, 2025, while still under felony supervision, Cassidy was arrested again in Oklahoma City for public drunkenness. Body cam footage shows her cursing at officers, claiming superior education, and attempting to lawyer her way out of the drunk tank while clearly intoxicated.

The System's Shocking Response

Despite two alcohol-related arrests and a pattern of endangering children, the Oklahoma Supreme Court refused to suspend Cassidy's law license. When the Oklahoma Bar Association filed for an interim suspension following her second arrest, the state's highest court simply declined to act. She continues practicing law through her firm Sage Law PLLC.

Meanwhile, journalist Ron Durbin faces suspension from the same bar association for his reporting on judicial corruption. The message is clear: expose the system's failures, face consequences. Endanger children while drunk? Keep practicing law.

What the Body Cam Footage Reveals

The complete body cam footage from both arrests tells a story the legal system wants buried. From Cassidy's slurred negotiations with officers during her felony arrest to her profanity-laced meltdown during her probation violation, the recordings reveal behavior that should disqualify any attorney from practicing law.

But what happened when she appeared in court? How did judges react to an attorney who violated probation with another alcohol offense? The full footage reveals courtroom exchanges that expose just how deeply the system protects its own members.

Watch the complete investigation to see the shocking body cam footage and discover how Oklahoma's legal system responds when their own break the law.
